How to setup your smartphone to receive Talk messages and notifications?

Nowadays business is unimaginable without mobile phones. Thanks to mobile Internet, apps and IMs you can stay up to date with the news relevant to you, no matter where you are. It is as much important to be in touch with the latest activity in your TeamLab portal. That’s why we thought it must be interesting for you to learn how to receive your portal notifications and chat messages directly on your iPhone, Nokia, Samsung or any other smartphone or pocket PC.

The setup procedure is very simple. For a start you need to make sure that the IM client you are using supports XMPP (Jabber). You can find the list of instant messengers that enable XMPP connection on the XMPP official website (search among the mobile platforms). The list provided on this website is not complete though, so we’d recommend checking up the features of a particular IM client as well. The most popular free instant messengers for mobile that allow you to set up TeamLab Talk are QIP Infium, Pidgin and uTalk.

After installing the client and launching it on your phone, click on the appropriate button to add the new XMPP account. You will be asked to enter your TeamLab account details:

your Jabber ID ([User Name]@[Portal Name].teamlab.com);
your password from your TeamLab portal account.

As a rule, the client automatically identifies all the other settings necessary to establish the connection. In case it does not, you can find the required settings on the Talk Overview page inside your TeamLab portal. Upon finishing the setup, the list of your corporate contacts will appear in the client window and you will be able to start exchanging messages instantly.

Via mobile phone it is not only possible to chat with your colleagues in real time, but also receive portal notifications. For that, don’t forget to enable delivery of notifications via Talk in your profile settings (under My Tools > Subscriptions tab).

Note that chatting via Talk and receiving portal notifications is the only option at the moment, there is no way to control TeamLab via smartphones. However, we are planning to develop a fully-functional mobile application for iPhone and other mobile devices this year. Keep up to date with our news!

    Hi TeamLab!

    I’m a new user and I’m still learning things. :)

    I don’t know if this is the right place to ask this question, but here goes: will you be supporting some kind of Video Messaging (as opposed to text) in the near future? I’m thinking of something like TokBox.com or MailVU.

    It would be a great addition, since I believe Video conveyes human communication more effectively than text, oftenmost – and communicating is one of TeamLabs core values, right?

      Hello,
      We do plan implementing video messaging in the future, but it is hard to state any exact dates at the moment. But be sure that this is on our roadmap already ;-)

    Based on your instructions, I enter “myemail@mydomain.com@myportal.teamlab.com” into the Jabber ID field? That doesnt work.

    In the web client I just miss the option to add there other people I talk with using jabber and the other thing is that on chrome (osx) I’m getting offline there after sending each message. Despite that, great work.
